Rincon del Cielo

By Kay Davis

Located on the lake between the pier and Lake Chapala Society is a new restaurant called Rincon del Cielo. The owner is Robert, a very nice man with a creative talent that shows in his menus. The restaurant is open for lunch Monday – Saturday starting at noon, plus Wednesday and Saturday evenings, closed Sunday. The way to approach the restaurant is via either side street, Morelos/Colόn or Ramόn Corona. Walk down toward the lake and then head mid-block where a group of large eucalyptus trees shade the restaurant. There are two levels so you can choose which beautiful view you prefer.

Immediately after taking our seats we were brought appetizers gratis (free). We ordered our drinks and looked over a sheet of 16 or so offerings like: Roast Leg of Pork with sautéed apples and roasted corn confit for 75 pesos or Almond Chicken (boneless breast) encrusted with almonds, sautéed in butter and finished in a maple brandy sauce for 85 pesos. There’s Steak Diane, medallions of filet flamed in brandy and finished with Dijon mustard, demiglaze and portabello mushrooms for 110 pesos. There is Pacific Whitefish, lightly breaded on deep dried chili poblano with cheese and avocado salsa for 85 pesos. The menu changes frequently so ask questions about anything you don’t understand or think might be too hot. The food is outstanding and you deserve to enjoy your choice.

For dessert there are six choices with such delights as: Chocolate Moca Mousse, not too sweet and topped with whipped cream or Fresh Apple Cobbler, or Jack Daniels Chocolate Pecan Pie with vanilla ice cream. Any choice is 30 pesos.

Once you try the food and the view at Rincon del Cielo, the odds are that you will return frequently and gladly. You’re welcome. Perhaps we’ll see each other there.
